What is Reality

Reality is the culmination of everything around you. Images, sounds, and smells integrate to form an experience that you know to be real. In its purest form, reality is what a person experiences themselves instead of observing through another’s eyes. In today’s modern world, reality is distorted by media and the arts. People have become so dependent on sources, such as television and photography, for news that they are being told by others what is real and what’s not. A prime example of this distorted reality is the use of photography in propaganda for the Iraq War. Photographs had been released displaying Americans torturing prisoners of war. These images from an isolated case caused public outcry and a major withdrawal of support among Americans for the Iraqi peacekeeping operations. Conversely many more images are shown displaying soldier’s patriotism and their willingness to help others. This is done by photos of soldiers interacting with foreign civilians, or displaying their unity among each other. Our views of these realities are further distorted by censorship in the media. Many news companies are biased and display images and stories that they want others to believe without giving both sides of the story. In the modern world it is best to keep an open mind in order to view these distorted realities as multiple viewpoints and use them to make your own image of the world.

Advertising

Gain

Sometimes the wonders of advertising baffle me. At first glance I questioned why Puma would have some crazy looking guy in a bath for one of their ads. I then looked closer and realized that it was actually Argentinian soccer star Gabriel heinze. Knowing who this is mixed with the text, "Celebrate. Anytime. Anywhere." quickly makes you realize that this soccer star is celebrating a victory, in a BATHTUB! Even somebody who knows nothing else about soccer has probably at seen the ridiculous celebrations that players do after scoring a goal that are often accompanied by the announcer yelling, "GGGOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!" This advertisement is directed towards followers of football (called soccer by some). The advertising focus is to promote Puma cleats as the choice cleat of champions. I believe this campaign is very quirky but gets its message across in a fun and creative way. Puma doesn't stop at the bath either; they show that victory can be anywhere.

Victory

At a kid's birthday

Triumph

Even at a wedding!

Puma's art of the celebration shows that their products are meant for winners of any occasion.

Come One, Come ALL

And welcome to my blog.
My name's Dax. I am a freshman engineering student at Clemson University. I play soccer, lacrosse, and also drive race cars. I'm interested in anything that looks good and goes fast. In this blog you'll be seeing some stuff relating to Clemson University and anything that i find cool, namely music, sports, racing, and some fashion (you gotta love Puma). I'm from Charlotte, North Carolina, but have lived in Chicago as well. This is my first attempt at blogging so hopefully all will go well. Sit back and watch as I struggle to pass class while entertaining the masses with tales of the daily grind, wild parties, or saving the damsel in distress (ha who knows). Enjoy the show!
